Chamber Candidates

Emily Goodrich - KSRA Radio

Why do you think an active Chamber is important to our community?

I believe an active Chamber is essential to the growth and flourishment of a community, especially ours. Being so remote, the people and businesses of Salmon strongly depend on one another. The Chamber helps small businesses, which in return helps us all. An active Chamber is a resource, advocate and connection that the businesses in our area need.

What are you most excited about working on with the Chamber?

As a Salmon native, and recently moving home a few months ago, I am most looking forward to working on the overall goal of the Chamber: to promote and foster a prosperous business climate, and to preserve the unique identity of our community. I love the Salmon River area, and I believe the best days for our businesses and community are ahead of us. I look forward to being a part of it!

The specific event I look forward to the most is Salmon River Days. This annual event has a lot of nostalgia for me, and I love that it encompasses the culture of our area and attracts people to Salmon.

Aleson Rietow - Ponderosa Pies

Why do you think an active Chamber is important to our community?

An active Chamber not only can (and should) unify our community, but stimulate our local economy.

What are you most excited about working on with the Chamber?

Summer events to encourage tourist and local engagement. Specifically, the opportunities and ideas for a Trade Show this summer. I’d really like to see the Chamber engage the community and visitors alike to promote a more vibrant and prosperous local economy.

Jo Schroeder - Gem Air

Why do you think an active Chamber is important to our community?

I grew up here, and our community’s traditions are important to me. But I also know a community has to adapt to thrive. An active Chamber can help us move forward, all while celebrating those things that make us different from other places. An active Chamber builds good business networks, supports local events, and helps spread the word – both locally and to the world – about what our whole county can offer people.

What are you most excited about working on with the Chamber?

I’m most excited about connecting people to businesses. We have great businesses in our area. We also have awesome people in this area, and even more who like to visit. I think there’s a big opportunity to simply do a better job connecting those people and businesses. For example, I want to get more people who are already coming to town (for events like hockey, etc., and for seasonal jobs) into more businesses while they’re here.

This particular idea is exciting because it encourages economic growth by capitalizing on resources, businesses, and events that are already here and happening. It’s about better communication and better connection. There is still a lot of work to be done on this front, and I’m excited to keep moving those ideas forward!

Jennifer Smith - Lemhi Regional Land Trust

Why do you think an active Chamber is important to our community?

I feel that an active Chamber is most important to the Salmon Valley by serving as a unified voice representing local businesses, providing a sense of community between Chamber members, and helping members and ultimately the community thrive. By joining the Chamber and being an engaged member, businesses can better understand the services that members provide to the community which translates to word-of-mouth referrals… The best kind!

What are you most excited about working on with the Chamber?

In my case, I am especially interested in bringing the non-profit business voice to the table as they too have many of the same needs and interests as for-profit businesses. We all need to pay our bills, hire and retain qualified employees, and support the community with our service, to name a few. I think mutually beneficial partnerships between for- and non-profit businesses could be an area to be explored that would benefit the entire community.

Patrick Bills - Saveway Market

Why do you think an active Chamber is important to our community?

I think an active Chamber is very important to our community. There is a lot of time and effort that is put in by everyone involved with the Chamber to improve our local economy. It’s important to have the Chamber, to keep our local economy strong and together as businesses meet the goals and interests they have in the Salmon valley. With the stronger influence of ecommerce and bigger box stores looking to make their mark on smaller communities like ours, it’s important to work together as a Chamber to keep people shopping local and support the family and friends that the community has here in Salmon. With all the tourist attractions that Salmon and Lemhi County have to offer, it is also important to have the Chamber to promote our community to other people to travel here and improve our economy.

What are you most excited about working on with the Chamber?

I am very excited to potentially work with the Chamber. This would be a very new experience for me and I am ready and anxious to learn all that I can to help in any way possible. I have ideas that could potentially help the community and other businesses in town prosper. I am excited to help with any events, promotion of the community or any other way that I can.

Jim Foster - Jim Foster Outdoors

Why do you think an active Chamber is important to our community?

It is my belief that an active Chamber is required to introduce new people to our community by letting them know about the many forms of recreation availed here, and let them know that Salmon should be a destination city to be considered.

What are you most excited about working on with the Chamber?

Summer I am most excited about learning more about the LOT tax and see that it is used for “putting heads in beds” and not for a FREE MONEY tax to be used for whoever needs money. This is a hotel and motel tax to be used for promotion and not as a grab bag for whoever needs funds.

I would also like the opportunity to help organize a committee, to help in the planning of a FAM trip, to share what we have to offer in the way of activities. Not just how well they are put up and fed but show what Salmon has to offer.
